Drawing Workshop

There's a pretty cool studio nearby that has a plethora of classes and workshops. It so happens that they have a life drawing session on Sundays that has no instruction or any sort of sign up required, you just pay as you go. I've gone a few times in the past, and I'm gunna try to get myself back in there regularly. Today was the first time back in about a year. Here are a couple of my fav's I did today.

So here is the second page. The first is the character Bastion's introduction, and this, obviously, is the introduction for Finn. The two boys are the main focus of this thing and they're going to have all sorts of crazy adventures. This is my plan anyways. I figure this will be my last post until I have a conceivably finished product to share. Can't put it all up here, but I thought the first two would lend themselves well to a taste of things to come. The pages will all eventually be inked. I'm going to hold on color, if there is time and energy for that it will definitely be the last step. The writing will be added digitally. I'm crossing my fingers. Someday soon I'll figure out what the hell I'm doing this for, stay tuned.

Here's a glimpse as to what's been looming. It's page one of what will hopefully be many more to come. It takes me a while to make a full page like this. With work taking up my days I devote only a few hours every night to this so its a deliberate and slow process, but I'd prefer that to something more rushed. I say it's a good start, I'm trying really hard to get a good composition in the panels and the overall page. I've got a lot to learn, but I can tell I'm learning as I go, so stay tuned.

Bond, James Bond

This here is a take on the fraternity letters for the Bond project. And a jetpack pose that I just thought was cool anyways.

The scan is not the best, but I assure you Mr. Connery is!

This is the begining of a project, I plan to post further stages as it develops. The style is supposed to mimc a movie poster sense, and because of that, I think, it looks to be derivative of a photo or existing poster. Well the pose is my own, the only reference was used for Double-O's swaggering smirk.

This is cheating, it's not a real post, but a fake one, I drew this for a tattoo for a friend... be assured I persuaded him not to get the tattoo, so it is out of my hands... I am proud of the technique of the drawing, not so much the subject.

Here we are again, more drawings! Bear with me, I'm working on a project for my senior show and I don't want to post any drawings from that until it's complete, so for the meantime there aren't as many to show.

Here's my favorite page from my sketchbook! I love that poor sap on the top. Not to forget our friend Donatello at the bottom. Studying Renaissance art this period has taught me that Donny preferred a hammer and chisel over a bo-staff, go figure?! He's good at what he does too!
Not my favorite page. This one made it in by hair alone. Egon was always the most suave of the ghostbusting troup.
I was asked by my fellow artisans to come up with an image for our gallery postcard. I think this might be the one. The caption "Don't worry, we come for the food too." will most likely follow.

Bunch at Once

So what seems to work for me is to sketch during the week and then just dump them on here for your viewing pleasure, whoever 'you' may be. I expect this to become a pattern.

Featured first this week is a full page from the sketch book, inspired by my slight addiction to coffee in the AM, and Ashland University's one and only "Tuffy". Here is an interesting character I was introduced to at a party. I took some liberties with exaggerations, but I remember my first impression of him to be a parachuter or something. I named him Rocket Fuel, and he thought I was a dumb art major.

This one goes without saying... clearly a metaphor for the world trade policies in effect today. Don't see it? You're just stupid! He's not good at being a zebra.

Back in Action/Ashland

I'm finally back at school, after a long winter break. This is the last semester of college for me, meaning I have a lot of work ahead of me. Expect to see a lot posted in the next few months. Thankfully Ashland has a decent Internet connection as opposed to what I'm used to at home. Unfortunately though, the scanners are not top notch, but these are mostly sketches anyways so it'll do. I drew all these at work... I'm a waiter so I get a nice variety of people to choose from... She was across the room at someone else's table, but she looked like a stereotypical church-lady.
I named her Ladyface.
This is not the liberator of the slaves. I work with this guy, his name is Kyle.This looks like a tribute to Fred Flinstone, but was not intended to be. This one actually was not inspired by anyone in particular, just made him up. More or less it's what my dad would look like with hair. Bwahaha
